Hair Moisturizing Techniques
EN (English)
Moisturizing/Hydration Techniques
L-Liquid (water, leave-in conditioner -leave-in, milk, lotion-)
C-Cream (water-based cream)
O-Oil
B-Butter (butter, whipped butter, pomade)
G-Gel (gel, snot gel, jelly, custard, mousse, edge control)
The most popular existing moisturizing methods are : LO, LCO, LOC
LCO method is recommended for low porosity hair whereas LOC method is recommended for high porosity hair.
LO method is recommended when your hair is already plaited/braided.
The frequencies observed in general, on a regular basis are : thrice a week, twice a week, once a week.
Note 1 - Styling on wet hair : When styling your hair, if it is already dry, re-dampened it with water (or soaked it with water for wash n go) to reactivate the products you put in before (LO/LCO/LOC).
Note 2 - After re-dampening your hair (L-water), you can add a little butter or pomade (B) on the length of your hair and focus more on the ends to further seal in the moisture and protect your ends even more. Butter or pommade helps also on the definition results of some hairstyles like twist-out or braid-out. So, for more definition and softness of the hair you can use a butter or pomade instead of a gel. Hence, your products layers will look more like : LO/LCO/LOC+(L-water)B .
Note 3 - When styling their hair, some people like having a good hold and a good definition for their hairstyle, so they usually use gel for that purpose. Once the gel is dried, they might break the gel cast, if any, with an oil. Hence, your products layers will look more like : LO/LCO/LOC+G(O) .
Note 4 - Some hairstyles like wash n go require the use of (a lot of) gel for some people (with tight curl pattern).
Note 5 - Styling on dry stretched hair : Don't use water because we don't want the hair to revert back (shrink). Instead, use preferably a cream (water-based) and focus more on the ends. Start applying the cream at the ends and gently work your way up to the root. Thereby, your products layers will look more like : LO/LCO/LOC+C(O) .
Note 6 - Learn to know your hair and what combo works for you and for a given hairstyle.
